چکیده

In the present article we analyze data from two temperature sensors of Mars Science Laboratory, which has been active in since August 2012. Temperature measurements received rover are noisy and must be processed validated before being delivered to scientific community. Currently, a simple Moving Average (MA) filter is used perform signal denoising. The application this basic method relies on assumption that noise stationary statistically independent underlying structure signal, an arguable kind harsh environment. paper, alternative methods process sensor measurements: Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) Hilbert-Huang (HHT). We consider different datasets, one belonging current Martian measurement campaigns, other Thermal Vacuum Tests. processing these datasets allows separate random interference created by systems. experiments show MA may provide useful results under given circumstances. However, proposed allow better fitting for all realistic scenarios, while providing possibility identify interesting features artifacts could later studied classified. large amount makes computational efficiency important requirement mission. Considering cost filtering performance, propose based DWT as more suitable application.

Empirical Estimates of Martian Surface Pressure in Support of the Landing of Mars Science Laboratory

The aim of this work is to develop an empirical expression for diurnal mean martian surface pressure in support of the landing of Mars Science Laboratory. We evaluate the consistency of surface pressure measurements from four landers, Viking Lander 1, Viking Lander 2, Mars Pathfinder, and Phoenix, and one radio occultation experiment, Mars Global Surveyor. With the exception of Mars Pathfinder,...

Measurements of energetic particle radiation in transit to Mars on the Mars Science Laboratory.

The Mars Science Laboratory spacecraft, containing the Curiosity rover, was launched to Mars on 26 November 2011, and for most of the 253-day, 560-million-kilometer cruise to Mars, the Radiation Assessment Detector made detailed measurements of the energetic particle radiation environment inside the spacecraft. These data provide insights into the radiation hazards that would be associated with...

Mitigation of the impact of terrestrial contamination on organic measurements from the Mars Science Laboratory.

The objective of the 2009 Mars Science Laboratory (MSL), which is planned to follow the Mars Exploration Rovers and the Phoenix lander to the surface of Mars, is to explore and assess quantitatively a site on Mars as a potential habitat for present or past life. Specific goals include an assessment of the past or present biological potential of the target environment and a characterization of i...
